Austin Mack is heading west.
The Edmonton Elks announced the club had signed the wide receiver to a two-year contract on Thursday, just days after being released by the Montreal Alouettes.
Mack, 28, was due a $45,000 signing bonus with the Alouettes on February 1st, part of a four-year deal he signed in Montreal in 2024. The 6-foot-1-inch, 208 lb. native of Fort Wayne, Ind. appeared in just 12 games due to injury for the Alouettes last season, securing 48 catches on 73 targets, racking up 674 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
He was listed as the fourth-best wide receiver in the 2026 free agent class by 3DownNation, who was the first to report the deal. According to TSN’s Farhan Lalji, the deal is worth $205,000 in 2026 and $220,000 in 2027, including a $55,000 signing bonus.
In Edmonton, Mack will reunite with Cody Fajardo, with whom he won the 2023 Grey Cup in Montreal. That season, Mack posted career highs in many categories, securing 78 catches on 120 targets, while racking up 1,154 yards and four touchdowns while earning All-CFL honours.
In the Grey Cup, he put together a 104-yard performance, which included a 31-yard catch on the opening drive that led to a William Stanback touchdown on the first drive, and a 33-yard, one-handed catch that set up a Cole Spieker touchdown on the next play. He scored a touchdown of his own four minutes into the fourth quarter to give the Alouettes a 21-17 lead.
Mack played four seasons of college football at Ohio State alongside stacked wide receiver classes that included current NFL players Terry McLaurin, Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave and Jameson, as well as current Elks teammate Binjimin Victor. Mack signed as an undrafted free agent with the NFL’s New York Giants in 2020, appearing in 11 games, making seven receptions on 11 targets for 91 yards, playing an average of 27.7 percent of the offensive snaps.
His big 2023 season led to an NFL chance with the Atlanta Falcons, signing a reserve/future contract on January 10th, 2024, but he didn’t appear in any games. After being released in early August of that year, he signed his four-year deal with the Alouettes.
CFL free agency opens on February 10th.
